TIME TRIAL The time trial will be held on paved roads as
well as off-road, including dirt-paths containing rocks and holes but also
sand-dunes. To win, the participants not only has to race
fast. The right strategy is of essential importance. ‘Especials’ will be held; Cars, bikes and
trucks leave one by one with regular intervals. The total amount of time
needed by each of the contestants during these trials will be added up
individually. All drivers will receive a ‘planilha’, a
route-map. Making shortcuts will be punished with additional time added to
the total time needed. Control-posts will keep an eye on the most
important parts of the route. Radar-posts will be placed near villages for
extra safety. Every driver needs to comply to the maximum speeds allowed.
During the ‘specials’ there will be no speed limit. Drivers, mechanics, reporters, the teams and
members of the organization will sleep in tents , baracs , schools or even
in the open air. Hotels will be hard to find.
